PartyGammon
The advent of Party Gammon to the backgammon world was to give the game of backgammon a new impetus, although to be honest sites like www.play65.com have been advocating the game for the past 14 months quite successfully clocking up over 1million registered players online already.
So what has PartyGammon got to offer that is different from the already oversubscribed backgammon online market place. The launch of its first million dollar tournament will undoubtedly get the flashbulbs flashing in the launch parties but is that really the way to win over the players,? Serious players could point to areas in Party Gammon which are a little disappointing, as in the case that you can’t save matches, or use automatic bear offs, automatic play for forced moves and auto roll when you are not able to double. These, coupled with the slowness of the site detract from the appeal of the site.
On further observation it is as if the site was designed by a poker player, rather than a backgammon master, because there is a game element that allows you to play four separate games at a time, much as in poker, with four separate decks, to fold and hold, commonplace in poker but not for the concentrated attitude of backgammon.
The other major obstacle is actually two fold, but they would appear to be linked. Firstly, the rakings or charges are not standardised so it is possible for the margin of player differential to be too great, with one superior pitted against a much lower ranking player, it is not always going to happen but it could.
What does happen however the maximum stake money in a game or match is $25. That means even in a $5 a point game, your maximum win or loss is 5 points. This favours bonus-hunting players. With a minimum wager to redeem a bonus, you get credit for the maximum stake of the game. For example bet $500. and you can achieve this by playing 20 money games for $1 a point with a maximum of $25. Most games will end low; therefore you get a lot of 'bonus wagering credit' for what might be called little action. All very disconcerting if you are appealing to a particular breed of backgammon player, others will play just for the fun of it, of course oh and the $1, 000000.
